 A three-year training programme designed to provide in-depth clinical training in veterinary diagnostic imaging that will prepare you to sit the examinations for the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. 

Support

The programme is supported by multiple Diplomates in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging both in the Small Animal Hospital and the Equine Clinic, as well as Board eligible team members and ad-hoc locums. Weekly clinical rounds, neuroimaging rounds, journal club, physics club, book review club and mock exams are part of the programme.

Clinical Training

The standard small animal track training programme emphasises:

• Radiography
• Ultrasonography
• Computed tomography
• Magnetic resonance imaging.

The caseload is high, with help from a team of dedicated veterinary nurses, radiographers and an imaging specific fellow (intern) responsible for image acquisition, and a full complement of Specialists in primary patient care and pathology. There is a large clinical component to the programme, but you will also be involved in student teaching and clinical research. You will also participate in an out of hours rota. The programme is linked to a Masters qualification.

Selection criteria for the Residency in Diagnostic Imaging

Along with the attributes and qualifications required it is also desirable if you have:

• A good academic record
• Quality clinical experience in small animal practice in the UK
• A team-working mindset
• Ability to fit on a mature training programme
• Prior rotation and imaging specific internships in UK academic institutions are not required per se, but recommended
• Prior clinical research and publications can help
