Aspects of course covered by Examination: Module 5. Detection Surveillance and Emerging Disease Module 6. Ecosystem Health Module 7. Evaluation of the Health and Welfare of Captive Wild Animals Module 8. Practical5. Form of Examination: The assessment will be modular and will utilise the following methods: 1. Written Papers: Following the second four Wild Animal Biology modules, there will be a written Diploma examination comprising problem-solving essays and multiple choice questions. 2. Coursework: a) Scientific Presentations b) Written Scientific Reports c) Pathological Procedures, Zoo Management and Wild Animal Conservation and Management Check List (for the assessment of the practical experience of Module 8)6. Marking Criteria: 1. - Examination essays will be marked according to the Colleges Common Grading Scheme. - Multiple Choice Questions: the number of marks available for each question will be clearly stated on the examination paper. A question left unanswered or deleted by the candidate will score zero. 2. Coursework will be marked according to the Colleges Common Grading Scheme or the Colleges 0-10 marking scheme. 3. Pathological Procedures, Zoo Management and Wild Animal Conservation and Management Check List: i) All candidates must have been certified to have completed selected basic pathological procedures by one of the Veterinary Officers or research veterinary surgeons of the Zoological Society of London or one of the veterinary surgeons from the °ϲʹ and ii) All candidates must have been certified to have completed selected zoo and wild animal management procedures by an appropriate keeper/team leader/section leader/ curator of the Zoological Society of London or rotation leaders in partner conservation organisations.7. Allocation of Marks and any additional requirements Allocation of marks is blueprinted against the number of teaching or research weeks in that module. Requirements to pass the Postgraduate Diploma in Wild Animal Biology To be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Wild Animal Biology and To have passed two of modules 5,6,7 and 8 outright and To have achieved an aggregated average of 50% from modules 5, 6, 7, and 8 and From Module 8: to have each of the procedures in the Pathological Procedures, Zoo Management, and Wild Animal Conservation and Management Check List certified to be have been completed9. Consequences of Failure: All candidates who fails to achieve the postgraduate diploma at the first attempt shall have one right of resit of the failed piece of work listed in 7. (above). A candidate who fails at the second attempt will be required to relinquish the course. They will have, however, a right of appeal as described in College Regulations.10. From the composite mark of all modules 1 to 8 inclusive: 75% or more at the first attempt Distinction 65-74% at the first attempt Merit 50-64% or any second attempt Pass Where a candidate has been admitted with exemption from modules the classification will be based on the modules studied at °ϲʹ.11. Disclosure of Marks Results will be published by candidate number.12. Absence and Summative in-course assessment An allowable absence is one that is for a significant unforeseeable event such as illness. Any other foreseeable absence will only be considered allowable if agreed by APRICOT and this will only apply in very strictly limited circumstances. A student absent for any other reason will be awarded 0 (zero) for the assessment.13. Late submission of work Written reports submitted after the due deadline cannot receive a mark greater than zero. The only exception being if the student has been given an extension by the directors for an allowable reason. 14.Other Requirements to Progress to the MSc None.
