Aspects of course covered by Examination: Principles of Veterinary Microbiology Principles of Veterinary Parasitology Principles of Clinical Science Animal Husbandry 5. 5.1 5.2 5.3 5.4 5.5.Form of Examination: Written Papers One two hour and forty minutes paper in three parts covering Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Parasitology and Principles of Clinical Science as follows: One part for Principles of Veterinary Microbiology comprising up to 25 MCQ and one 20 minute essay question from a choice of two (1 hour). One part for Principles of Veterinary Parasitology comprising up to 25 MCQ and one 20 minute essay question from a choice of two (1 hour). One part for Principles of Clinical Science comprising 25 MCQ questions (40 minutes). Principles of Clinical Science OSPVE (required attendance). A spot test of up to 2 hours covering Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Parasitology and Principles of Clinical Science. In course assessment: An MCQ assessment taken at the end of each module. Animal Husbandry Report  6. 6.1 6.2 6.3 Marking Criteria: Examinations & Orals See attached Annexe I Multiple Choice Questions The pass mark for the MCQ examination as a whole will be set according to approved and accepted standard setting protocols, normalised and then scaled OSCEs (formative only) A pass mark will be set for each OSPVE station out of a total of 10 marks. 7. (That is, 40% of the total for the in course assessment, MCQ written, Essay written and Spot test EM!, weighted as in the allocation of marks schedule above, for each of the three subject area). and To have passed the Animal Husbandry Report and To have satisfactorily completed 12 weeks of Animal Husbandry Extra Mural Study (AHEMS). and To have undertaken the Principles of Clinical Science OSPVE and To be able to complete the course within 5 years from the start of year 3. Resit 9. 9.1 9.2 9.3 9.4Consequences of Failure A candidate who fails at the first sit is required to take the resit or withdraw from the course. A candidate who fails at the resit will be required to withdraw from the course. S/he has a right of appeal as described in College Regulations. A candidate who fails solely due to an allowable or approved absence from the OSPVE will be permitted to progress, but is required to attend at the next 3rd year OSPVE session. A candidate who fails solely due to failure in the Animal Husbandry Report will be permitted to progress, but is required to resubmit and pass the Report prior to the start of Year 4. 10. 10.1Classification A candidate who, at the first attempt, obtains an average mark of 65-74% inclusive will be awarded a pass with merit. A candidate who, at the first attempt, obtains an average mark of 75% or more will be awarded a pass with distinction. 11.Disclosure of Marks Results will be published by candidate number. 12. Absence and Summative in- course assessment Where a student has an allowable absence, s/he will be marked absent (A) from a summative assessment. Where a student has an A, and there are three or more in-course assessments in the year, the marks awarded will be the average of the other in-course assessment marks gained by the student. 90% of the marks for the year must be attributed to results of direct assessment i.e. no more than 10% of marks can be attributed to Absent (A). An allowable absence is one that is for a significant unforeseeable event such as illness. Any other foreseeable absence will only be considered allowable if agreed by APRICOT and this will only apply in very strictly limited circumstances. A student absent for any other reason will be awarded 0 (zero) for the assessment. 13. Late submission of work Reports or Project work submitted after the due deadline will be given a mark of not more than a bare pass.
